Heyoo, nothing like a blog post 8 hours before a huge showing at SXSW!
Erogear levered upon its wearable display technology to illuminate a dress woven with Luminex (a fiber optic impregnated fabric) created by Alison Lewis of Agent of Presence. Luminex is a notoriously difficult material to get intense light from, but our custom LED driver design made bright work of it.
Our team of five averted every crisis that came our way, and tomorrow (derr, today I mean) you can see it first-hand:
On January 18, 2012 hundreds of people gathered in front of San Francisco's city hall to protest the S.O.P.A. and P.I.P.A. bills being pushed through congress. GIven that Anders is vehemently against many sections of these bills, he decided to use ths eye-catching ability of Erogear's flagship demo unit to help educate people (@3:35):
The active video content described what the SOPA/PIPA acronyms stood for, presented who was opposed to it, and showed who would be negatively affected. The high-impact graphic capabilities of the Erogear system made complex logos and text clear to the viewers. You can see the raw content here (front):
We met a lot of great people fighting for their cause, next time we'll get there earlier because what was stated as lasting two hours was more like one hour, so we caught the tail-end of it (sans press).
It's that time again! Erogear grabbed some article space in the publication Flexible Substrate (volume 7, issue 5) for release shortly. They thought our unintended participation in the Oakland A's game was cool, and we are showcased with a few other groups who are heading full-steam into the inevitable fashionization (is that a word?) of technology.
While designing the next generation Erogear hardware this week, we heard from one of our customers about a performance at the Toyota National Sales Meeting in Las Vegas. It happened early this year to the amazement of a huge audience, and emphasis was put on seamlessly integrating video content on a huge stage LED screen with the high-res Erogear jacket. The results are nothing short of spectacular, click below! Tip: the fun starts around 1:05.
The tech-house DJ VITAMINDEVO and Erogear are bringing a new dimension to the underground visuals scene. Erogear supplied a blue-on-white vest and Devo himself created the smooth video content to fill it. While at Burning Man Devo played at Robot Heart, Opulent Temple, Disorient and other venues to audiences totaling in the thousands:
Then in San Diego he wore his killer outfit again with party-goers at Spin Nightclub:
We brought our own light show to the Playa in the form of wrist cuffs (a prototype design) and a running/cycling vest. It was amazing how useful they proved to be at night where they acted as head (and tail) lights while we zoomed around on our crappy, crappy bikes! Footage below is from a previous Girl Talk concert because our camera took a dump, but it's representative enough:
The Palo Alto Moonlight run was a huge success! Our six-million-dollar-woman Kate rocked the 10K race with an Erogear vest displaying a video loop for her sponsor Genencor.
Our video garment caught the eyes of hundreds of people and many of them came up to us bringing kudos and asking for business cards.
A thunderstorm came and went but the display kept on running, check it out:
Phil and I attended the Baltimore Orioles vs. Oakland A's game at the Oakland Coliseum August 16, and talk about return on investment!
We sat right behind home plate and managed to get some jumbotron time which was awesome but what happened afterward was too good to be true. The umpire halted the game, pointed straight at us and asked us to dim our garments! Check out the footage from MLB.com:
I was wearing the amber-on-black jacket (in support of the Orioles) and Phil wore his green-on-white vest (in support of the A's). The fans booed the umpire in support of our LED-based team love, and even more support poured in via comments on the Yahoo! Sports article here:
At the 2008 Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan, Marco Tempest (marcotempest.com) wore one of our flexible LED display jackets. His custom display covers multiple areas of the jacket– his chest and down his right arm.
The display elements of Marco’s jacket contain a total of 2,048 LEDs that are full gray scale running at 30 frames per second. The EroGear controller can support higher frame rates and the content is read from a standard SD (secure digital) card allowing for any length of content.
Check out the video of his awesome performance below, and you can learn more about Marco Tempest and his performance at his web site.
